Boston Globe

The Boston Globe was founded in 1872
by six Boston businessmen, led by Eben Jordan
(founder of the retail store Jordan Marsh),
who jointly invested $150,000. The first
issue was published March 4, 1872 and cost
four cents. On October 1, 1993, The Globe
and Affiliated Publications merged with
the New York Times Company in the largest,
single newspaper merger and acquisition
in US history. The Boston Globe thus became
a wholly-owned subsidiary of The New York
Times Company. |
