KSAT 12 hasn't always been called KSAT. In fact, the station went on the
air as KONO TV in February 1957, with the inauguration of President Eisenhower.
In 1968, the station was purchased by the Outlet Co of Providence, RI. It
officially became KSAT 12 in 1969, when the company changed its call letters.
Since then, KSAT has had several owners. The Rockefeller Group purchased
KSAT 12 in 1984. H&C Communications, a Texas-based company, purchased KSAT
12 in 1986. Post-Newsweek, the current owners of KSAT 12, bought the station
in April 1994. |

KSEE-TV24 was the first television station to go on the air in Fresno on
June 1, 1953. As part of its pledge to serve the Valley’s diverse audience,
KSEE 24 established a Community Advisory Board to help the station ascertain
community issues and concerns. KSEE 24 is also a corporate leader when it
comes to supporting non-profits in their fundraising efforts. KSEE is an
NBC network affiliate, and a member of the National Association of Broadcasters.

On January 22, 1947, commercial television arrived in Los Angeles. There
were approximately 350 television sets in all of Los Angeles when Bob Hope
signed KTLA on the air. KTLA has a reputation as a news leader and pioneer

Television Network. Initially offering three nights per week of programming,

It was October 31, 1949. KWQC-TV6 (formerly WOC-TV) signed on for its first
official telecast day. In July of 1950, some of the NBC network programs
were added. By September 30, 1950, a more robust NBC schedule that included
the World Series was carried live on television. To this day, of the 4 major
network television stations in the Quad-Cities, KWQC-TV6 is the only station
broadcasting stereo audio to its viewers. In April 1996 KWQC-TV6 became

Iowa’s News Channel

KWWL has been a dominant news station in eastern Iowa for more than 20 years.
KWWL began broadcasting on November 29, 1953. KWWL is the local NBC affiliate
for a market which includes Waterloo, Dubuque, Cedar Rapids and Iowa City,
Iowa. KWWL News programming is at the heart of their operation. In severe
weather, Eastern Iowan’s have learned to count on KWWL. |

NBC Austin
Offices: Austin, Texas
KXAN-TV 36 signed on the air on February 12, 1965. At that time, it was
known as KHFI-TV Channel 42 and was owned by Southwest Republic Corporation.
In early 1973, a deal was made between the Kingsbury family and Henry Tippie
who bought the station. The call letters and frequency were then changed
to KTVV-TV, Channel 36. In 1979, Kingstip agreed to sell the station to
LIN Broadcasting Corporation of New York. On October 15, 1987, the call
letters were changed to KXAN-TV, Channel 36. It is the NBC affiliate for
the Austin market. |

(KYTV)

KYTV is owned by Schurz Communication and is an affiliate of NBC. KYTV signed
on the air on October 1, 1953, at 4:47 P.M. and concluded the broadcast
day at 10:30 P.M. KYTV currently produces 19 1/2 hours of news weekly. News
specials are also produced periodically along with special programming of
community interest being produced by the news department. Viewers recognize
the strength of KY3 News in all new programs, making them number one with
all newscasts according to Nielsen. |
